Be thankful in all circumstances…

εχαριστω = Eucharisteo
Definition:
1. to be grateful, feel thankful
2. give thanks
This past week has been so difficult on so many levels… And it’s not the first week that’s been hard. It seems that one hard week follows the other, and there’s no relief in sight… yet…
But this week was different. Our American neighbors are celebrating Thanksgiving this week. And everywhere I looked this week, every time I was ready to hang my head, I read, I saw, or I heard:
Be thankful…
There were times this week where I really had to dig deep to find a good reason to be thankful for. And you know, once I started looking, I saw it everywhere around me: reasons to be thankful for. I just had to choose to look. I had to force my mind not to park itself on all the bad things that are happening around me, I had to force my mind to look for things I’m grateful for.
Be thankful…
When the fatigue is so bad, and I don’t even want to sit up straight.
Be thankful…
When I don’t have the energy to get up early for my 45 minutes on the treadmill.
Be thankful…
When I get the news that my kid is sick halfway around the world, and I can’t do anything to comfort her.
Be thankful…
When the report card is brought home, and it’s not what I was hoping for.
Be thankful…

I’m looking at the mess in my basement, and there’s no energy to sort it or clean it up.
Be thankful…
There’s a matter that I’ve been praying about, and nothings seems to be happening.
Be thankful…
I could go on and on and on…
Reading the book “One Thousand Gifts” by Ann Voskamp has really helped me to see and practice EUCHARISTEO every single day. I am certain it’s no coincidence I started reading this book a few weeks ago.
“Always be joyful.
Never stop praying.
Be thankful in all circumstances,
for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (New Living Translation)
“And give thanks for everything to God the Father
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Ephesians 5:20 (New Living Translation)
