Bible Study…

This week has started off the Good Morning Girls Bible study on the book of Ephesians. In September I came across this website and decided to try out their method of study on the book of 1 John. I was amazed at how much I learned each day from studying just 1-3 verses a day. And the cool thing was that I was able to do this with my daughter who lives across the city and who I don’t see her very often, and with my sister and niece who live out in the country. We were able to connect most days over email, and I found that very encouraging. Just to be in contact with these precious girls was very special to me.
Now I’m onto my second study with Good Morning Girls. And it is shaping up to be quite the ride! I’ve always loved the book of Ephesians. I’ve marked so many verses in this book and memorized several passages already. So it was only natural to select this book for my next memory project. I will report to y’all how that’s going in a few months…
But back to this week’s verses from the book of Ephesians 1: So far we’ve studied the first 10 verses. And two things popped up at me here:
  1. The apostle Paul writes in verse 1, that he, Paul, was “chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus.” (emphasis mine) Then he goes on to say in verse 4,
“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.” (again, emphasis mine).
Doesn’t that make you feel special? I feel very blessed and very humbled by the thought that God loved me and chose me in Christ, and all that even before the world was made.
In verse 5, Paul continues to explain that “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family…” (emphasis mine). I love it that God does have a plan for this world, He has a plan for me and my life, He has a plan for each of my children.
Paul continues in verse 11: “for He chose us in advance, and He makes everything work according to His plan.” (emphasis mine) Yu-huuuuuu!!!!  Yes, He really does hold the whole world in His hands!!!
  1. The other thing that I found so amazing is this: Jesus is at the center of this plan. Here are just a few excerpts from the first 10 verses:
“…who has blessed us…, because we are united with Christ.” (verse 3)
“…God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.” (verse 4)
“…to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ.” (verse 5)
“…who belong to his dear Son.” (verse 6)
“…he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.” (verse 7)
We have been chosen, loved, forgiven, cleansed, adopted, accepted and blessed because of Jesus. It is because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection that God can see me “holy and without fault in his eyes”. On my own, I will never measure up, I will never reach perfection. But because of Jesus, I can come “boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” (Hebrews 4:16) That’s pretty special to me!
So this is just from 10 verses. Can you see where this is going? My mind might explode from all the truth I’ll be learning in the next weeks and months.
