Planning, planning, planning… But what good is a plan if I don’t execute it? And what good is a plan that I start executing but don’t see it through to the end?
How do I remain consistent with executing my plan?
This has been haunting me for years. I’m really good at planning, but being CONSISTENT in executing has brought down many of my plans…
At times I’d like to scream: WHAT AM I DOING WRONG HERE???
And you know what came to mind?
I don’t plan for life’s interruptions!
Can I even plan for interruptions? All my life I’ve been so idealistic about my plans. They were perfect plans for a perfect person living a perfect life in a perfect world.
But guess what? Am an imperfect person living a roller-coaster-kind-of life in a broken and chaotic world. No wonder this never worked!
Where do I go from here? Do I toss all my plans and live plan-less day in, day out? No, I don’t think so. I still have goals I want to reach and dreams that I want to see fulfilled. And I know I won’t get there without a proper plan. After all:
So here is my plan:
1. “We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.” Proverbs 16:9 NLT
I don’t ever want to forget this Scripture. Yes, this is my plan, but I want to hold it loosely and with outstretched hands towards my Heavenly Father, so that when He sends me an interruption I don’t crumble and get down on myself but take it as a lead to adjust my plans without making a big deal about it.
2. I will plan big, I will aim high, and I will not apologize for it!
I will memorize King David’s words to God and repeat them over and over to remind myself that my God is so much bigger than I make Him to be.
“In your strength I can crush an army; with my God I can scale any wall.
God’s way is perfect. All the LORD’s promises prove true.
He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.
For who is God except the LORD? Who but our God is a solid rock?
God arms me with strength, and he makes my way perfect.
He makes me as surefooted as a deer,
enabling me to stand on mountain heights.
He trains my hands in battle;
he strengthens my arm to draw a bronze bow.
You have given me your shield of victory.
Your right hand supports me; your help has made me great.
You have made a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping.”
(Psalm 18:29-36 NLT)
I am very humbled to see how God is orchestrating my life and using it to help others. He has been opening doors for me to enter I never even knew existed! He only asks for obedience. And consistency!!!
3. Remember: everything in my life is part of His plan!
The people I meet on my life’s journey, the city and country I live in right now and the places I’ve lived in the past. He is using all my experiences in His plan. I don’t always see why I have to go through this difficulty, why I have to face this problem or why I get to enjoy something and be real happy about it. But I know it’s all part of His plan.
“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family
by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ.
This is what He wanted to do, and it gave Him great pleasure…
Furthermore, because we are united with Christ,
we have received an inheritance from God, for He chose us in advance,
and He makes everything work out according to His plan.”
Ephesians 1:5, 11 NLT (emphasis mine)
Are you facing any of the struggles I described? Have you held on too tightly to YOUR plans and couldn’t let go when you faced interruptions in life? How did you manage the execution of a plan? I’d like to hear from you. Please leave me a comment.
