The Finish Counts!

This week is a week of finishes. Last night we finished the women’s Bible study “David – Seeking a Heart Like His” by Beth Moore. It’s always bittersweet to finish a study after 11 weeks. Friendships have been formed and relationships built during this time. And it was so neat to see the women hug each other at the end of the night. What a difference from the first night of Bible study!

And we’re also on our last week of study with the Good Morning Girls. So we all will finish it the same week. I better have a plan for next week:<)) Otherwise I tend to just drift for a while and it gets harder to get into God's Word again. But these finishes got me thinking… These last 12 weeks have been really hard, and on so many levels. There was exhaustion after the Film Festival, there were and still are health issues, there’s lots of action in my family, a wedding social, a wedding shower and then the wedding itself to plan… And I have to admit that many times I just wanted to quit the study of Ephesians. It all just seemed so much, so overwhelming… Why did I want to quit something so life-giving? Why not cut out other things from my life that wear me down and entangle me in things that are life-taking?

I’m sooooo glad I stuck it out! I would have missed out on so many blessings along the way. I would have missed so many teachable moments from God. I’m still planning to memorize the whole book of Ephesians by the end of this year. So far it’s only chapter one. So I better get going there, or I won’t finish.

It’s not the start the counts. It’s the finish!

10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Meggie – this is so true – I have trouble finishing some things!! I am actually trying to figure out why that is. You are a blessing to me my friend. Love you lots!

  2. Bryan says:

We all are guilty of allowing life to get in the way of those things which truly are life-giving! Thanks for the reminder and I love the passage on putting on the “whole armor of God!
